Advanced Myofascial Techniques (Intro, Direct and Indirect Approach) IN PERSON (15 hours each; Introductory class or Instructor Permission is Prerequisite for Direct and Indirect Myofascial Massage which can be taken in any order)
Course Description: Myofascial Massage introduces massage therapists to the anatomy, physiology, intent, and techniques that address the superficial and deep fascias of the body. Myofascial massage refers to bodywork that focuses on the myofascial unit, particularly the connective tissue (CT) surrounding the muscle and CT areas of attachment to muscles and bones, (tendons and ligaments). Myofascial massage provides benefits for practitioner and receiver and relies on osteopathic principles that treat the body as a whole, functioning unit with the power to rejuvenate when guided into balance. Results last longer and clients seems to respond more quickly to bodywork that focuses on CT as well as the muscle.
Introduction to Myofascial Massage class offers massage practitioners a better grasp of the vast myofascial massage field, advanced myofascial study programs and the difference between Direct and Indirect Approaches. This introductory class outlines a logical approach to basic anatomy, manual techniques, and physical manipulations and exercises that address the myofascial unit. Students will sample techniques from Direct and Indirect Myofascial Approaches to get a feel for which ones work with the massage therapist’s current goals, target populations and preferred style of practice. Direct Myofascial will expound on that knowledge to provide protocols of sustained pressure with micromovements to meet and soften resistence for any part of the body. Indirect Myofascial works with the connective tissues by using applied movements alone to guide the body into ease.
