How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. A comparative survey of scientific literature found that psychoanalysis can be expected to have a 38% success rate after approximately 600 sessions, whereas hypnotherapy can be expected to have a 93% success rate after an average of SIX sessions. (Source: Barrios, Alfred A, “Hypnotherapy: A Reappraisal,” Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice, 1970.) I offer a discounted package for 3 or more sessions because most people benefit from more than one session
Is hypnosis safe?
Absolutely. Hypnosis was approved by the American Medical Association in 1958 as a safe practice with no harmful side effects. It is a natural state of consciousness. We go in and out of this state every day; when reading books, daydreaming or walking the dog.
What if I can’t be hypnotized?
Hypnosis might be something different than you think it is. The instant that you open the door to the vast world of the imagination, you are in trance. You may or may not feel different. Shifts will happen by setting your intention and allowing the experience to unfold.
Will I remember what happens?
Yes. During a hypnosis session you will hear and remember everything. You are aware of your surroundings, yet you feel so relaxed that the usual distractions fade out. In other words, you know where you are, but you are much more interested in and focused on your inner experience.
Will I be in control during a session?
Absolutely. You are always in control of what you say and do. In fact, “all hypnosis is self-hypnosis” because no one can make you squawk like a chicken, relax, or do anything against your will in this state. As a practitioner, I will never tell you what to do. Rather, we will work together so I can guide you to find insightful answers.
How will medical hypnosis benefit me?
In whatever ways you’re looking to transform your overall health and life, my experience has been that medical hypnosis can empower and inspire you. You will learn ways to:
- Access and cultivate inner resources for healing (e.g., breath, touch, movement, imagery)
- Address pain, stress, anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, weight loss and other medical issues preventing you from achieving health
- Incorporate relaxation processes and positive affirming self-talk into your healing journey and daily life
- Trust yourself more and cultivate compassion and courage
- Increase openness and intimacy with others
What about self-hypnosis?
Ultimately all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. In the words of Albert Schweitzer, “Patients carry their own doctor inside. They come to us not knowing that truth. We are at our best when we give the physician who resides within each patient a chance to go to work.”
